So just what is a sewing/craft lounge?

Craft Happy is the newest in a series of sewing lounges to sprout up across the country. Starting with San Francisco's Stitch Lounge, the sewing lounge works by offering the community a space to get crafty without having to own expensive equipment or lug their sewing machines to classes. It's a place where people can meet other people that share their interests and have fun taking classes or working on their own projects.

Craft Happy is South Carolina's first and we are proud to offer great classes, a fun atmosphere, and a definite sense of empowerment- just look at our calendar to see all the cool stuff you can make here with us!

Why should I come here and not just sew at home by myself?

When you sew with other people it is not only more fun, but it's also a great way to learn - because you will share the studio with people of different skill levels you can pick up tips and tricks from the veterans.

There are some great tutorials online for learning how to sew or knit, but you just can't beat the attention and help of a live human being. Plus, we have a ton of fun in our classes!

What kind of classes do you have?

We offer classes in sewing, knitting, crochet, general crafting and kids crafts - check out our online calendar for the latest and greatest!

When can I visit Craft Happy?

Craft Happy is currently open for classes and parties six days a week! Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 1pm-8pm Friday 10am-8pm Saturday 10am-5pm Sunday 1pm-8pm Closed Mondays

Can I have a party at Craft Happy?

Yes, you can totally party here! Parties at Craft Happy are a blast- we provide all the supplies, instruction, and reserve our craft lounge just for you and your guests. We do parties for ages 5 to 95. Each Craft Happy party is uniquely geared towards the party person, and everyone leaves with something they made with their own two hands. Contact us for ideas, prices, and availability!

Do I have to bring my own sewing machine?

No way! Who wants to lug that across town? Craft Happy uses the Brother ES2000 sewing machine - a great machine for both veterans and beginners alike! If you would like to bring your machine, feel free, but please come 15 minutes before class begins and bring your manual just in case. Own a machine but don't know how to use it? Sign up for our Get To Know Your Sewing Machine class and get comfortable on your very own machine- then there'll be no stopping you!

Why do I have to bring my own supplies to some classes but not others?

For many of our sewing classes we send you a supply list with information on how much fabric/which notions to bring to class. This is because we want you to walk out the door with exactly what you wanted to make - picking your very own fabric is part of the fun! Forget to buy fabric for a class? Buy it the day of your class here at Craft Happy and get 10% off. We also love People, Places, and Quilts (one block over from us); their selection of cotton fabric is incredible!

Are your classes just for kids?

No way! We have classes for adults AND kids here at the studio. Classes specially designated for kids are our After Class Crafts on weekday afternoons, Kids Sewing, Kids Knitting, and Sewing/Craft Camps. Ages 8 & up are welcome to join in any of these! Younger than 8? Bring the little ones with an adult to our Sunday afternoon Family Craft classes. 16 and older? Any of our regular classes are perfect for you.

The class I want to take is full - is there a waiting list?

Yes! Each class has a waiting list and you will be notified immediately via email if an opening comes up.

You don't have classes in what I want to take - can I suggest a class?

Definitely! We are always open to any feedback you have. Contact us and let us know what you would like to see! If you are looking to work on something super-specific, like one particular pattern, consider signing up for a Private Lesson. Every Friday is left open for one-on-one Private Lesson time; check out our calendar for upcoming availability!

I signed up for a class, but I can't make it - can I get a refund?

Due to the very limited enrollment in our classes and the special nature of our workshops, classes at Craft Happy are non-refundable. Please check your planner carefully before you sign up! That being said, we understand things come up. If you let us know at least 48 hours in advance, we will transfer you to another class of your choosing or credit your Craft Happy account for 90 days. That way, you can take the same class the next time it is offered! Of course, if you're unable to attend your chosen class at the last minute, you may send someone in your place. Please provide us with that person's name, phone number and email address as soon as possible and we will send them all the details!

Can I watch my kid while they take a class with you?

Sorry, parents. Time at the Craft Happy studio is super-creative time, and we don't want to hinder young minds in any way. We have a kids-only policy for our kid-specific classes. You are welcome to wait in our comfy waiting room or drop them off and pick them up at the end of class, but we like it if you let us get crafty on our own. Want to do something together? Sign up for Family Craft or for a Private Lesson and learn a new handcrafting skill as a pair!

I took a class with you guys and didn't like it - can I get my money back?

Oh no! We want everyone to have a great experience at Craft Happy, but we understand if you have discovered that handcrafting is just not your cup of tea. Unfortunately, we cannot offer refunds on classes. If you would like a refund because you were unhappy with your overall experience at Craft Happy, please let us know immediately and we will do whatever we can to make it right!

Random Class Policies:

Classes are limited, so please sign up on our website to secure a spot or call in advance for availability. Payment is required to reserve your space - if you don't want to sign up online, drop on by during our open hours and sign up at the front desk!

I'm mobility challenged - can I still take a class with you?

Unfortunately, we are upstairs in a historic building in downtown Summerville, and we are not handicap-accessible. Still interested in a class? Contact us, and we can see about coming to you!

I'm interested in sewing, but I'm a little intimidated - how can I test the waters?

Don't be scared! Sewing is fun and we are here to make sure you learn the basics in a safe environment. Our Sewing 101 class is perfect for the adult absolute beginner, and our Sewing Camps for kids are geared towards those 8 and up - see our calendar for more details!

Knitting looks really cool, what type of needles/yarn should I get for my class?

None. You know why? We give you some with the class. That's right! You will receive your very own pair of knitting needles and a skein of yarn that is perfect for beginners when you sign up for our Knitting 101 class.
